Artisan Markets in Gaios is a weekly open-air market held along the waterfront promenade in Gaios, the main port of Paxos. It showcases local crafts, handmade jewellery, ceramics, and regional produce from Ionian artisans. The market operates on weekday mornings from May to October, with stalls set up between the clock tower and the ferry dock.
What to expect
- Browse 20 to 30 stalls featuring hand-thrown pottery, woven textiles, olive wood carvings, and silver jewellery made by Paxiot and Corfiot artisans.
- Sample and purchase local products such as Paxos olive oil, wildflower honey, thyme-infused sea salt, and kumquat liqueur, all sold directly by producers.
- Watch live demonstrations of traditional lace-making and woodturning, with artisans working at their stalls from 9:00 to 13:00.
- Find one-of-a-kind souvenirs like hand-painted ceramic tiles depicting Paxos harbours and embroidered linen napkins, priced from 5 to 40 euros.
- Suitable for slow-paced browsing, with shaded stalls and nearby cafés; the market is wheelchair-accessible along the flat promenade.
- Arrive before 10:30 to avoid the midday cruise-ship crowds, as the market gets busiest between 11:00 and 12:30.
