Murter is one of Croatia's limestone karst islands, with pebbly coves, pine woods and little surface water. Croatian is the main language, written in Latin script with island dialects of the Čakavian group. Croatia adopted the euro in 2023, which simplified travel between the islands and the mainland. Typical island produce includes Pag cheese, pršut cured ham and rosemary-scented lamb, which visitors can sample ashore.
