Maui's tropical climate keeps the leeward coasts drier and sunnier through the year, while the wetter months generally run November to March. Hawaiian cooking leans on fresh seafood, poke, plate lunches and tropical fruit, and shrimp plates fit that pattern. Direct flights from the US mainland serve Hawaii, with inter-island flights and ferries linking the main islands. English and Hawaiian are the main languages, so ordering and routine exchanges are straightforward for most travellers.
