Mallorca's rainfall is low and falls mainly in autumn and winter, so summer drought is normal. Catalan and Spanish are both official languages, with island dialects known as mallorquí, menorquí and eivissenc. The peak season runs from June to September, when the sea is warm and the beaches are busiest. Palma sits among the nearby places of Alcúdia, Magaluf, Cala d'Or, Port d'Alcúdia, Santa Ponsa, Puerto Pollença and Cala Millor, all reachable from the island's capital.
