Mallorca's rainfall is low and falls mainly in autumn and winter, so summer drought is normal and outdoor plans rarely need a rain backup. Balearic cooking features seafood, sobrasada cured sausage and ensaimada pastries, which suits long days of practice and exploring. Ferries and fast boats link the islands to Barcelona, Valencia and other mainland ports, giving visitors a slower alternative to flying in.
