Campsites in Sipadan Island are basic tent pitches located on the island's sandy shore, within the Tun Sakaran Marine Park off Sabah's east coast. The campsites are managed by Sabah Parks and serve as the only overnight accommodation on the island, primarily for divers with permits. Facilities are minimal, with shared toilets, a small canteen, and no electricity after dark, but the location is directly adjacent to the island's famous drop-off reefs.
What to expect
- Overnight stay is limited to one night per permit, with a maximum of 12 campers at a time
- Each pitch includes a two-person tent, sleeping mat, and a mosquito net, but no bedding or pillow
- Dive boats depart from the campsite jetty at 6:30 AM for the first morning dive at Barracuda Point
- Campers see green turtles nesting on the beach from May to September, with hatchlings emerging at dawn
- The campsite provides a gas stove and cooking utensils, but all food and drinking water must be brought from Semporna
- Suits certified divers with at least 20 logged dives, as the campsite is not serviced by a dive shop or medical facility
