Wine Tasting in Hang Cau is a guided tasting session held inside the volcanic sea cave of Hang Cau on Ly Son Island. Participants sample locally produced wines while standing on the cave's basalt rock floor, with the ocean surf audible at the entrance. The activity combines geological sightseeing with a short oenology briefing on the island's traditional rice and grape wines.
What to expect
- Session lasts 45 minutes, including a 10-minute walk down the cave's stone steps to the tasting platform
- Four 30-millilitre pours of Ly Son's rice wine and two grape wines, each served in a reusable ceramic cup
- A guide explains the cave's formation from a 25-million-year-old volcanic eruption and the island's wine-making history
- Visitors can touch the hexagonal basalt columns lining the cave walls between tastings
- Suits adults aged 18 and over; non-drinkers receive a complimentary bottle of local mineral water
- Tasting table is set near the cave's inner pool, where seawater filters through the rock at high tide
