Festivals in Tías is the annual programme of local fiestas held across the municipality of Tías on Lanzarote. These celebrations include religious processions, live music, and traditional Canarian events in the towns of Tías, Puerto del Carmen, and Mácher. The calendar runs from spring through autumn, with each fiesta honouring a local patron saint.
What to expect
- Attend the Fiestas de San Antonio in June, featuring a procession with the saint's statue through the streets of Tías town.
- Watch the Fiestas de Nuestra Señora del Carmen in July, where a decorated boat carries the Virgin out to sea from Puerto del Carmen harbour.
- Join the evening verbenas (open-air dances) with live bands playing Canarian and Spanish music until late.
- Sample local food stalls selling papas arrugadas, mojo sauce, and grilled meats during the main fiesta days.
- See traditional Lanzarote wrestling (lucha canaria) exhibitions held in a sand ring during the August fiestas in Mácher.
- Expect street parades with giant papier-mâché figures (cabezudos) and children's games in the afternoon before the evening events.
