Coffee Shops in Fuencaliente is a self-guided tour of the island's southernmost coffee-growing village, located on the volcanic slopes of La Palma. Visitors walk between family-run cafés that roast beans grown on local plantations, often with views of the Atlantic and the San Antonio volcano. Each stop offers a chance to taste single-origin brews and learn about the region's microclimate.
What to expect
- Visit 3 to 5 working coffee shops within a 1.5-kilometre radius of the town centre, with each stop lasting 20 to 30 minutes.
- Sample at least two locally grown varietals, such as Typica or Bourbon, roasted on-site in small batches.
- See the volcanic ash soil and terraced plots where the coffee cherries are hand-picked between January and March.
- Talk directly with roasters who explain the drying, milling, and roasting process in Spanish or English.
- Suitable for walkers with moderate fitness, as the route includes gentle slopes and uneven cobblestone paths.
- Each café provides a free small pastry or biscuit with your first drink purchase, and most offer decaf or tea alternatives.
