Campsites in Breña Alta are designated camping areas on the island of La Palma, located in the municipality of Breña Alta. These sites provide a base for outdoor stays amid pine forests and volcanic landscapes, with access to marked hiking trails. The campsites operate under municipal regulations and offer basic facilities for tents and campervans.
What to expect
- Campsites are open year-round, with stays limited to a maximum of 3 consecutive nights per site.
- Each pitch includes a flat tent area, a picnic table, and a fire pit for controlled campfires (wood must be purchased locally).
- Shared facilities include potable water taps, chemical toilet disposal points, and rubbish bins; no showers or electricity are provided.
- The main campsite, El Pilar, sits at 1,200 metres elevation, giving direct access to the GR-130 trail and views over the Caldera de Taburiente.
- Suitable for self-sufficient campers and small groups; no on-site staff or shop, so bring all food, cooking gear, and lighting.
- A permit from the Breña Alta town hall is required for groups larger than 10 people; individual campers do not need a reservation.
