Base
About
On Kyushu, BASE is a hairdresser at 1712-440 Tano, Kokonoe, Kusu District, Oita 879-4911, Japan. The village of Kokonoe sits inland, within reach of Beppu and Yufuin, two of the island's best-known hot spring towns.
Clients come to BASE for haircuts and styling in a quiet rural setting rather than a city salon, and the 4.8 out of 5 average awarded by 78 reviewers reflects how consistently that work is received. Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Sasebo all lie within the wider region, though Kokonoe itself rewards those who make the trip inland. First-time visitors should expect an appointment-led visit in a village surrounded by countryside, so planning the journey ahead of time is worthwhile.
The salon's website is https://9base.jp/. Photographs and further information about the salon are available online.
Kyushu's four seasons shape any visit, with hot, humid summers giving way to cold winters that bring snow to the north. Sushi, ramen and tempura are staples across Japan, and each region seasons its broth differently, so meals in Oita taste unlike those in Fukuoka. Trains, ferries and domestic flights connect the island's towns, and Japanese is the language used almost everywhere, so a few basic phrases help when travelling beyond the cities.
