Tha Khao's Restaurants & Dining scene is a collection of casual seafood eateries and local Thai kitchens along the eastern coast of Koh Yao Yai. These family-run spots serve freshly caught fish, crab, and squid, often grilled over charcoal or cooked in spicy southern curries. Diners eat at wooden tables facing the Andaman Sea, with menus written in Thai and basic English.
What to expect
- Most restaurants are open from 11:00 to 21:00, with lunch crowds peaking between 12:30 and 14:00
- A typical meal for two costs 400 to 800 Thai baht, including rice, two dishes, and drinks
- Daily catches arrive at 15:00, so order the day's grilled snapper or stir-fried crab with morning glory
- Several venues offer free use of their beachfront hammocks and kayaks while you wait for your food
- Vegetarian options are limited to pad thai, fried rice, and som tam, so notify staff in advance for other requests
- The dining area is open-air with no air conditioning, so bring insect repellent for evening meals
