Pasai Beach Restaurants & Dining is the collection of casual seafood shacks and Thai kitchens lining the sand at Koh Yao Yai's Pasai Beach. It offers grilled fish, curries, and cold drinks served directly on the shore, with tables set under thatched roofs. The dining strip faces the Andaman Sea and operates primarily during daylight hours, with a few spots open for sunset dinners.
What to expect
- Most eateries are open-air bamboo structures with sand floors, seating 10 to 30 guests at low wooden tables
- Fresh catch is displayed on ice at the front of each kitchen; you select a fish or prawn and it is grilled over charcoal within 20 minutes
- A standard meal of one grilled fish, two sides, and rice costs 300 to 500 Thai baht per person
- Local families run the kitchens, and menus are handwritten in Thai with English translations for about 15 dishes
- Diners eat barefoot at tables placed 5 to 10 metres from the waterline, with waves audible during high tide
- The strip suits travellers staying at Pasai Beach resorts who want a short walk for lunch or early dinner, not a formal evening venue
