Restaurants & Dining in Koh Yao Yai Village is the primary eating-out hub on the island, located along the main road in the village centre. The village offers a compact cluster of family-run Thai seafood shacks, local noodle stalls, and a few Western-café options, all within a five-minute walk of the pier. Most kitchens serve freshly caught fish and crab, with menus in Thai and English, and prices averaging 150–400 baht per main dish.
What to expect
- A 30–60 minute sit-down meal at one of the six to eight open-air restaurants, with tables set under thatched roofs or shaded verandas
- Daily catch displayed on ice at the front of each seafood shack, where you choose your fish, prawns, or squid and specify grilled, fried, or steamed preparation
- Local specialities include massaman curry with fresh crab, stir-fried morning glory, and pad thai with river prawns, all cooked to order
- Most restaurants provide free drinking water and a basket of sliced cucumber and chilli dip with every meal; drinks like fresh coconut and Singha beer are extra
- Dinner service runs from 17:00 to 21:30, with the busiest period between 18:30 and 20:00; lunch options are fewer, with two noodle stalls open from 11:00 to 14:00
- Suitable for solo travellers, couples, and small groups who want a casual, no-frills meal; no reservations are taken, and payment is cash-only at all venues
