Coffee Shops in Tha Khao Beach is a self-guided tour of the beachside cafés along the sand strip of Tha Khao Beach on Koh Yao Yai. Visitors walk between independent coffee stalls and shaded bamboo huts, each serving locally grown Robusta brews and Thai-style iced coffees. The route takes about one hour and suits travellers who want a slow morning with sea views and a caffeine stop.
What to expect
- Walk the 1.5-kilometre beachfront path and stop at four to six operating coffee stalls, each with its own brewing setup and seating on sand or wooden decks.
- Taste a traditional kopi khao (iced milk coffee) or a black Robusta pour-over, both made with beans from nearby Krabi province.
- Observe the baristas roasting small batches over charcoal at two of the stalls, with the roast smell mixing with salt air.
- Sit on low plastic stools or hammocks under palm-thatched roofs, with direct views of the Andaman Sea and longtail boats at anchor.
- The walk is flat and sandy, suitable for barefoot strolling, but not for wheelchairs or prams; allow 45 to 90 minutes including drink stops.
- Each coffee costs between 40 and 80 Thai baht, and no food is served at most stalls, so eat breakfast before you start.
