Chalok Baan Kao’s restaurant scene offers a mix of casual Thai eateries and beachfront bars along the southern bay of Koh Tao. This dining strip is known for its fresh seafood, spicy curries, and sunset views over the water. Most venues are family-run, with open-air seating and a relaxed village atmosphere.
What to expect
- Sample pad thai, green curry, and grilled fish at local shacks, with most mains priced between 80 and 200 baht.
- Watch the sun set from a beachfront table while sipping a fresh coconut or a cold Chang beer.
- Try the catch of the day, often displayed on ice and cooked to order, at one of the seafood grills along the sand.
- Join a weekly beach barbecue or fire show at larger venues, which typically run from 7 pm to 10 pm.
- Find vegetarian and vegan options at several health-conscious cafes, including tofu stir-fries and fruit smoothies.
- Suit yourself for a casual dinner or a late-night snack, as most kitchens stay open until 10 pm or later.
