Koh Samui's weather splits into two monsoon periods, and the Gulf coast is generally at its driest between January and September. Menus across the island centre on seafood pulled from local waters, along with curries, noodles and tropical fruit. Arriving on Koh Samui usually means a flight, a ferry or a speedboat from the mainland. Thai serves as the everyday language, and English is widely spoken in tourist areas, so a few basic phrases help with daily interactions.
