Thai islands have a tropical climate with high humidity and warm temperatures all year. Thai cooking uses fish sauce, shrimp paste, coconut milk, lemongrass and chillies, with rice as the staple. Together Cafe fits into that landscape as a coffee shop or café on Koh Lanta. Thai is the national language, written in its own script, and it is tonal, so pitch changes word meaning, which is worth knowing when ordering.
Other places within reach include Klong Dao, Long Beach, Kantiang Bay, Bamboo Bay, Klong Nin, Klong Tob and Old Town, spread along the island's coast. The café's position in Sala Dan puts it near the northern end of Koh Lanta, where the ferry pier and the main village sit.
