Koh Chang lies within Thailand's islands, where a tropical climate brings two monsoons and the Gulf coast generally suits travel from January through September. Thai island food centres on fresh seafood, curries, noodles and tropical fruit. Flights, ferries and speedboats link the mainland to the island, and Thai is the main language, with English common in tourist areas. A base at Riverview Hostel puts Klong Prao and the island's western beaches within easy reach.
