Kauai's tropical climate keeps the leeward coasts drier and sunnier through the year, while the wetter months generally fall between November and March. Hawaiian food blends fresh seafood, poke, plate lunches and tropical fruit, and a hire car makes it easier to stop at local eateries around the island. Flights from the US mainland reach Hawaii directly, and travellers can move between the main islands by inter-island flight or ferry. English and Hawaiian are the main languages spoken, so most visitors can communicate without difficulty.
