Newman's Wholesale & Liquor Store
About
Newman's Wholesale & Liquor Store, on Jamaica, is a liquor store in Portmore, a city on the island's south coast. First-time visitors should expect a wholesale and retail outlet rather than a bar or lounge, so the stop is about picking up bottles to take away rather than drinking on site. It is a straightforward place to stock up before a party, a hotel stay or a trip onward across the island.
Shoppers rate Newman's Wholesale & Liquor Store 3.8 out of 5 from 37 reviews, a solid if unspectacular showing. Portmore sits just west of Kingston, so the store is reachable from the capital and from Spanish Town, while Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Falmouth and Mandeville lie further afield. Driving is the practical way to reach it, and a car makes the stop easy to combine with errands in the surrounding area.
Portmore, Jamaica, is the address, placing the store in one of the island's largest urban areas. Shoppers can plan a visit around a day of errands in the Kingston area rather than a dedicated trip.
Visitors to Jamaica will find that Caribbean cooking often pairs rice, plantain and saltfish with Scotch bonnet peppers, so a bottle from a liquor store fits naturally into a meal. Carnival parades take place across the Caribbean, some before Lent and others in the summer, giving travellers a reason to stock up ahead of festivities. The island's roads connect Portmore with the main resort towns, though journeys can take longer than the map suggests.
