Surf Lessons in Falmouth is a guided surf instruction program on the north coast of Jamaica, based at the calm waters of the Martha Brae River mouth. The activity pairs certified local instructors with beginner and intermediate surfers, using soft-top boards and reef-safe wetsuits. Lessons run for two hours and cover paddle technique, wave reading, and pop-up mechanics in waist-deep water.
What to expect
- Two-hour session includes a 20-minute land drill, then 90 minutes in the water with a maximum of four students per instructor.
- All equipment provided: 9-foot soft-top surfboard, leash, and reef-safe zinc sunscreen.
- You will practice catching waves on a gently sloping sandbar, with waves averaging 2 to 4 feet during the morning sessions.
- Suitable for first-timers and casual surfers; no swimming certification required as you stay in shallow water where you can stand.
- Each lesson ends with a video review of your pop-up technique, filmed from the beach by the instructor.
- Located a 10-minute walk from Falmouth's historic pier, with changing rooms and freshwater showers on site.
