Diving & Snorkeling in Barano is a guided underwater activity based in the coastal village of Barano, on the island of Ischia. Participants explore the volcanic seabed, rocky reefs, and thermal water vents that define this part of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The activity operates from a local dive centre with equipment provided and certified instructors leading each session.
What to expect
- Sessions last 2 to 3 hours, including a 20-minute boat transfer to the dive sites.
- Full scuba gear (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins) and a 12-litre tank are included in the price.
- Snorkellers receive a mask, snorkel, fins, and a buoyancy aid, with a guided surface tour of the shallow rocky gardens.
- Divers descend to depths of 5 to 18 metres, passing over black sand, gorgonian fans, and colonies of damselfish and wrasse.
- Thermal water vents release warm bubbles from the seafloor, creating a unique microhabitat with colourful anemones and shrimps.
- Suitable for certified divers (minimum Open Water Diver) and confident swimmers aged 10 and over; a medical questionnaire is required for divers.
