Artisan Markets in Killeany is a weekly gathering of local craftspeople and food producers on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. Held in the village of Killeany, the market showcases handmade knitwear, pottery, and island-grown produce. Visitors can meet the makers directly and purchase authentic Aran souvenirs.
What to expect
- Open every Wednesday from 10:00 to 14:00, from May to September, in the Killeany community hall.
- Browse stalls featuring hand-knitted Aran sweaters, woven baskets, and stone-carved jewellery, all made on the island.
- Sample and buy local foods such as smoked mackerel, seaweed preserves, and fresh soda bread from the bakers.
- Watch live demonstrations of spinning wool and traditional turf-cutting tools, with makers explaining their craft.
- Suitable for all ages, with a children's craft table where kids can make their own mini Aran stitch bookmark.
- Cash-only market; an ATM is available at the nearby Killeany pier, a five-minute walk away.
