Snotra Hostel
About
Iceland visitors find Snotra Hostel, a hostel set in the small community of Þykkvibær, where Ásvegi 3 sits in the south of the country. This hostel gives travellers a countryside base away from the larger towns.
Guests score Snotra Hostel 4.7 out of 5, a strong showing for a hostel of its size. Reykjavik, Selfoss and Vik are among the places within reach for day trips, while Akureyri, Hofn, Keflavik, Husavik and Isafjordur lie further afield across the island. First-time hostel guests can expect shared facilities and a relaxed, communal atmosphere rather than hotel-style privacy. The 116 reviews collected so far reflect that steady guest approval.
The hostel keeps a website at https://snotrahouse.is/ for bookings and enquiries.
Traditional Icelandic food includes skyr, rye bread baked in geothermal ground and fermented shark, and the midwinter Þorrablót feast celebrates these dishes in January or February. Puffins nest in burrows from spring and leave again by late summer, so timing a visit around the birds pays off. Summers bring near-continuous daylight, while winters are dark and cold.
