First-time visitors to Ibiza should note that the Balearic Islands have a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters, and the peak season runs June-September. Balearic food features fresh seafood, sobrasada sausage, and ensaimada pastries, with local wines from the islands' vineyards. The Balearics are served by frequent flights from across Europe and ferry routes from mainland Spain. The main languages are Spanish and Catalan, and English is widely understood in tourist areas. San José is another nearby place on the island, offering a contrast to the busier resort towns for those extending their stay.
