Hawaiian culture includes hula dance, oli chants and the voyaging traditions of Polynesian navigators, and these traditions remain part of island life. Hawaiian Creole English, commonly called Pidgin, is spoken widely across the islands. Trade winds from the northeast bring most rain to the windward coasts, so the Kohala side around Hawi can be wetter than the Kona coast.
