Hilo sits on the windward coast, where trade winds from the northeast bring most of the island's rain.
Hawaii has a warm tropical climate, and daytime temperatures change little between summer and winter, so the lounge works as an evening stop year-round. The wetter season runs from November to March, while April to October stays drier.
Lei garlands made from flowers or shells are given in Hawaii to mark greetings, birthdays and graduations, and a lounge in Hilo is the sort of place where that custom surfaces.
