Surf Lessons in Pahoa offers beginner-friendly surf instruction on the Big Island's east coast, near Pahoa town. The lessons take place at a consistent, sandy-bottom break suitable for first-timers. Certified instructors provide all necessary equipment and safety briefing before entering the water.
What to expect
- Two-hour group or private lesson includes a 30-minute land-based tutorial on paddling, popping up, and etiquette.
- All gear provided: soft-top surfboard, leash, and reef-safe sunscreen; wetsuit tops available for cooler mornings.
- You will practice catching white-water waves in waist-deep water, with the instructor pushing you into each wave.
- Suitable for ages 8 and up; non-swimmers can join with a flotation belt and close supervision.
- Lessons run daily at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, with a maximum of 4 students per instructor for safety.
- After the session, rinse off at the outdoor shower and receive a digital photo of your first wave (included in the price).
