Surf Lessons in Honokaa is a guided surfing programme on the Big Island of Hawaii, based at the Honokaa Harbour break. The lessons are led by certified instructors who tailor each session to the participant's skill level, from first-time paddlers to those refining their technique. The location offers consistent, manageable waves suitable for learning in a quiet, uncrowded setting.
What to expect
- Each lesson lasts 2 hours, including 30 minutes of beach instruction on safety, paddle technique, and pop-up form before entering the water.
- All equipment is provided: a soft-top surfboard, a reef-safe wetsuit, and a leash, with no additional rental fees.
- You will practise catching waves in waist-to-chest-high surf at Honokaa Harbour, a reef-protected break with a sandy entry point.
- The instructor stays in the water with you throughout, offering one-on-one corrections and pushing you into waves when needed.
- Suitable for ages 8 and up, with a maximum of 4 students per instructor to ensure individual attention.
- After the session, you receive a photo of your ride and a verbal debrief on your progress and next steps for independent surfing.
