Surf Lessons in Captain Cook is a guided surfing session on the Kona coast of Hawaii's Big Island. The lesson takes place at a protected bay with gentle waves, suitable for first-time surfers. A certified instructor provides all necessary equipment and safety briefing before entering the water.
What to expect
- Lesson duration is 2 hours, including 20 minutes of land-based instruction on paddling, popping up, and board control.
- All gear is provided: soft-top surfboard, leash, and reef-safe sunscreen, with wetsuit tops available for cooler mornings.
- The session begins at the Kealakekua Bay shoreline, where the water is shallow and the sandy bottom reduces injury risk.
- Participants practice catching white-water waves under direct supervision, with the instructor in the water at all times.
- Suitable for ages 8 and up, with a maximum of 6 students per instructor to ensure individual attention.
- After the lesson, you receive a photo link of your session, taken by a shore-based photographer, at no extra cost.
