Festivals in Pahoa is a recurring community celebration held in the town of Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island. The event showcases local music, food, and crafts in a relaxed outdoor setting. It brings together residents and visitors to honour the district's rural character and cultural traditions.
What to expect
- The festival runs from 9am to 4pm on the second Saturday of each month, with free entry for all attendees.
- Live Hawaiian music and hula performances take place on a central stage throughout the day, featuring local bands and dancers.
- Over 40 vendors sell handmade items such as lauhala weavings, koa wood carvings, and tropical plants, with many offering on-site demonstrations.
- Food stalls serve plate lunches, fresh poke, and shave ice, with vegetarian and vegan options available from at least three vendors.
- Children can join craft activities like lei-making and coconut husking, supervised by volunteers from the Pahoa Community Centre.
- The event suits families, solo travellers, and anyone interested in authentic local culture, with shaded seating and restrooms provided.
