About this experience

Coffee Shops in Waimea is a curated guide to the town's independent coffee houses on Hawaii's Big Island. Waimea, also known as Kamuela, sits at 2,670 feet elevation, where cool misty mornings and rich volcanic soil produce distinctive local roasts. This activity covers the historic Paniolo town's cafés, from ranch-style espresso bars to farm-direct brewers.

What to expect

Visit 4 to 6 working coffee shops within a 1.5-mile stretch of Waimea's main road, each with its own roasting equipment and tasting bar
Sample 100% Kona and Ka'u coffees grown on nearby slopes, with most shops offering free 2-ounce pour-over samples before purchase
Watch baristas use manual siphon or pour-over methods, a process that takes 5 to 8 minutes per cup, at shops like Hawaiian Style Cafe and Coffee Gallery
Pair your coffee with local baked goods such as lilikoi scones or macadamia nut shortbread, available fresh each morning from 6:30 am
Suitable for solo travellers, couples, and small groups; each stop lasts 20 to 40 minutes, with no reservation required and seating on covered lanai or indoor counters
Observe the town's ranching heritage through cowboy-themed decor and vintage saddles displayed in two of the participating shops
