Gili Trawangan sits in a tropical climate shaped by two monsoons, with the drier stretch from May to September and the wetter months from October to April. Indonesian cooking is bold and spice-driven, built around rice, satay, grilled fish and fresh tropical fruit, and the night market is a convenient place to sample it. Domestic flights and fast boats link the island to the wider archipelago, while international airports sit on the main islands. Indonesian is the main language, though English is common in tourist areas, so arranging a treatment is straightforward for international visitors.
