Restaurants & Dining in Gili Air is the island's collection of beachfront warungs, garden cafes, and evening grill spots, located along the main east and south coast paths. The dining scene operates on a no-motorised-vehicle island, so every meal is reached by foot or bicycle. Menus focus on freshly caught seafood, Indonesian classics, and wood-fired pizza, with most kitchens open from 7am to 10pm daily.
What to expect
- Meals are served at low tables on sand or wooden decks, with bare feet the norm and no shoes required
- Seafood dinners feature whole grilled snapper or tuna steaks, priced at 50,000 to 120,000 IDR per portion
- Breakfast options include banana pancakes, muesli with local yogurt, and fresh papaya juice, served from 7am to 11am
- Many restaurants offer free Wi-Fi and power sockets for laptops, attracting remote workers between 9am and 5pm
- Cooking classes run for 2.5 hours, including a market visit and preparation of three dishes, suitable for groups of 2 to 6
- Evening fire shows accompany dinner at three beachfront venues, starting at 7pm, with seating on beanbags or wooden benches
