Formentera's tourism grew quickly from the 1960s, and the island now fills up between June and September, when the sea is at its warmest and the beaches are at their busiest. Balearic cooking leans on seafood, sobrasada cured sausage and ensaimada pastries, and foraging for picnic supplies before a beach day is a familiar routine here. The island's compact shape means a hire car or bicycle covers the ground quickly, and the supermarket's position on the La Savina road places it on the main arrival route.
