Restaurants & Dining in Folegandros is a curated guide to the island's tavernas, ouzeries, and cafes, located in the main village of Chora and the port of Karavostasis. It covers traditional Greek dishes like matsata and local goat, alongside seaside fish tavernas. The guide helps visitors choose where to eat based on cuisine, setting, and budget.
What to expect
- Meals typically last 1.5 to 2 hours, with menus in Greek and English at most establishments.
- Dining options range from cliffside terraces in Chora to waterfront tables at Karavostasis port.
- Local specialities include slow-cooked goat with pasta (matsata), chickpea soup (revithada), and honey-drenched pastries (amygdalota).
- Most tavernas serve fresh fish caught daily, priced by the kilo, with a choice of grilled or fried preparation.
- Reservations are recommended for dinner in July and August, especially at the five most popular spots in Chora.
- Suitable for couples seeking romantic settings, families with children (high chairs available), and solo travellers at counter seating in ouzeries.
