About this experience

Surf Lessons in Cape Clear Island are guided coaching sessions for beginners and intermediates at the island's Atlantic-facing beaches. The lessons are run by certified instructors who provide all necessary equipment and safety briefings. Each session focuses on wave reading, paddle technique, and standing up on the board in the cold, clear waters of West Cork.

What to expect

Each lesson lasts 2 hours, including a 20-minute land-based safety and technique briefing before entering the water.
All equipment is provided: wetsuit, booties, leash, and a soft-top surfboard suited to your skill level.
You will practise in the sheltered cove at the north-east side of the island, where waves are smaller and more predictable than the open Atlantic.
Instructors stay in the water with a maximum group of 6 students, giving individual feedback on your pop-up and balance.
The lesson suits first-timers aged 8 and above, as well as surfers who want to refine their turning on green waves.
After the lesson, you can rinse your wetsuit at the on-site outdoor shower and receive a photo link of your session if you opt in.
