What is the difference between Pilates and yoga?

Pilates focuses on core strength, posture, and controlled movements, while yoga combines physical postures with breath work and meditation. Both improve flexibility and body awareness. Pilates tends to be more focused on mat or equipment-based exercises.

Do I need to be flexible to do Pilates?

No, Pilates is suitable for all fitness levels. Exercises can be modified to suit your flexibility and strength. Regular practice will naturally improve both over time.

About this experience

Pilates in Canary Islands (Spain) is a structured mat and equipment-based exercise class held in studios across the archipelago's main islands, including Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Sessions focus on core strength, posture, and controlled breathing, led by certified instructors in small groups. The year-round mild climate allows for some outdoor classes on terraces or beaches, though most venues are indoor, air-conditioned studios.

What to expect

Classes typically run 50 to 60 minutes, with a maximum of 8 participants per session for individual attention.
Each session includes the use of mats, resistance bands, and small props such as magic circles and foam rollers, all provided by the studio.
You will perform a sequence of exercises targeting the transverse abdominis, pelvic floor, and spinal stabilisers, with modifications offered for beginners and advanced practitioners.
Suitable for adults of all fitness levels, including those recovering from back injuries or seeking low-impact rehabilitation, but not for pregnant women without prior medical approval.
After the class, you can use the studio's changing rooms and showers, and some venues offer complimentary herbal tea in a relaxation area.
