Diving & Snorkeling in Sunken Cemetery is a guided underwater activity at the Sunken Cemetery off the coast of Catarman, Camiguin. The site features a large white cross marker rising from the sea, marking the submerged town cemetery that sank during the 1871 volcanic eruption. Divers and snorkelers explore coral-encrusted tombstones and a vibrant marine ecosystem in clear, calm waters.
What to expect
- Guided boat trip from the shore to the cross marker, with a total activity duration of 2 to 3 hours including briefing and surface interval.
- Snorkelers stay at the surface to view the cross and shallow coral gardens at 3 to 5 metres depth, while divers descend to 12 to 18 metres to inspect the submerged cemetery structures.
- Full scuba gear, weights, and tank are provided for certified divers; snorkel sets and life vests are available for non-divers.
- Encounter schools of jacks, batfish, and occasional sea turtles among the coral-covered grave markers and man-made reef structures.
- Suitable for beginner divers and confident snorkelers, with a maximum depth of 18 metres and gentle currents typical in the morning hours.
- Includes a safety briefing on local marine life and site etiquette, plus a post-dive logbook stamp from the dive operator.
