Artisan Markets in Le Palais is a weekly open-air market held in the main square of Le Palais, the harbour town of Belle-Île-en-Mer. It operates every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 8:00 to 13:00, from April to October. The market features local producers selling Breton food, handmade crafts, and island-grown produce.
What to expect
- Browse stalls of island-made pottery, woven baskets, and linen textiles, each with a maker present
- Taste fresh oysters, smoked fish, and salted butter caramels from producers based on Belle-Île or the Quiberon coast
- Watch a blacksmith or woodcarver demonstrate their craft at the central stall between 9:30 and 11:00
- Buy seasonal vegetables and herbs grown in the island's walled gardens, sold loose by the kilo
- Suitable for families with strollers, as the market is flat and pedestrian-only, with a public toilet at the nearby town hall
- Arrive by 8:30 to avoid the 10:00 crowd and secure the freshest bread from the two island bakeries
