Ameland's North Sea setting brings mild summers, cool winters and changeable weather throughout the year, so visitors pack layers whatever the season. Dutch island cooking leans on fresh North Sea seafood, lamb raised locally and dairy from island farms, with Wadden honey as a regional speciality. Ferries and boats from the Dutch mainland coast provide the main access, and flights serve some Wadden Islands. Dutch is the primary language spoken here, which helps when ordering at the counter.
